Built to combine the sportiness of a 6 Series with the luxury of a 7 Series, the Gran Coupe is the ultimate machine for the effortless traveller who likes to move and arrive in style. It’s not only beautiful inside and out, but it’s also wildly powerful and yet surprisingly economical. BMW’s done it again and they aren’t afraid to let the world find out.
During the full-scale press launch in Sicily, an island known for its impossibly twisty and narrow roads, the Gran Coupe was put through its paces by the automotive journalists of the world. What they found out is that the GC seems to shrink around the driver and instantly shed its weight when pushed through the more dramatic Sicilian roads – a trait akin to BMWs.
Engines currently range from the 3.0-litre N55 inline-6 640i that produces 320 hp and 450 Nm of torque and the 4.4-litre N63 V8 650i producing 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque. Coupled to an 8-speed automatic with steering wheel mounted shift paddles, it’s smooth and fast gear changes have no problem propelling the GC to illegal speeds in the blink of an eye.
Styling wise, the Gran Coupe needs no flattering words or phrases of adoration. It’s downright beautiful inside and out. We’ll therefore let the pictures below do the talking, as we lack the vocabulary to describe this sleek, stylish, stunner of an automobile.
