BMW unveils the new 2024 BMW 5 Series and the electric i5 M60

BMW unveiled two new significant new models last month, the new 2024 BMW 5 Series and the impressive new all-electric I5 M60. These two new midsize sedans from BMW will arrive on the market in October 2023 and promise to offer the latest features buyers want as well as exceptional performance we have come to expect from BMW. The manufacturer's suggested starting prices for the models available at launch are $70,500 for the 530i xDrive and $95,000 for the i5 M60 xDrive.

An all-new design

The 2024 BMW 5 Series boasts a modern front design with LED headlights and vertically positioned daytime running lights and indicators. Its kidney-shaped grille, inspired by the first generations of the 5 Series, is visually centred and sporty, with optional illuminated contour lines. The vehicle has a sporty silhouette with elongated proportions, a long bonnet and a steeply raked A-pillar, as well as two distinct character lines and black rocker panels. The side section is athletic, with flush door handles and the Hofmeister signature highlighted by a graphic '5' element on the side window frame.

The I5 M60, meanwhile, offers distinctive elements: individual design features that enhance its dynamic performance. The front bumper features black surfaces and large air intakes. The radiator grille features horizontal slats and the M logo. The rocker panels and door mirror caps are finished in high-gloss black. The car is fitted with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels. Finally, the rear bumper with a pronounced diffuser insert underlines the sporty character of the M Performance model.

A luxurious and connected interior

The new BMW 5 Series offers both driving pleasure and travelling comfort. The interior is spacious, functional and made from high-quality materials. The design is clear and sporty, with innovative equipment for optimised comfort. The BMW Curved Display is a central feature of the redesigned interior. Other innovations include the BMW Interaction Bar, My Modes, and a new gear lever. The vehicle features a significantly expanded level of standard and optional equipment for greater comfort and individuality.

The BMW Curved Display is a frameless glass surface comprising a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control screen. It merges into a single, fully digital, high-resolution unit, with a clear start-up screen and QuickSelect access for touch operation. The control system is primarily touch-based, with natural language, steering wheel buttons and a BMW iDrive controller in support. BMW Head-Up Display and BMW Gesture Control are available as options.

Top performance in the electric BMW i5 2024

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is a luxury electric car at the top of the 5 Series range. It features a powerful 590 hp electric powertrain with performance characteristics typical of the M range and specific design elements. Two highly integrated drive units on the front and rear axles form an electric all-wheel drive system that delivers dynamic performance. The rear motor generates a maximum power output of 335 bhp, while the front motor produces 257 bhp for a total system torque of 605 lb-ft.

The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 230 km/h on performance tyres. The 'Boost' shift button allows drivers to activate full driving power on demand for maximum acceleration.

Impressive performance from the 2024 BMW 5 Series too

The new-generation 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder engine features the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. The exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head provides an increase in power: 255 bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 6.1 seconds. The modular design and Miller combustion process deliver enhanced performance. Fully variable VALVETRONIC valve control with switchable rocker arms reduces friction torque and improves energy recovery.
