BMW 1 Series: A Small Car With Big Heart

The BMW 1 Series is by far the smallest car with big ambitions. With its caricature-type styling, I was initially wondering why in the world BMW would swing for the fences with this miniature dose of Bavarian Motor... But the truth of the matter is, this dose may look miniature but it is anything but.

At first glance, it is a shortened 3 Series with odd proportions. The lights seem large, wheels and windows too. But these observations I soon realized were in comparison to an existing car; the 3er. I begin to wonder if my perception would be inverted had the 1er been the award-winning and already established model. Would I then think of the 3 as an elongated, thinned-out mutilation of the 1? It was clearly time to adjust the objectivity lens. Then, clarity hit me: by all means this car is pretty.

In its best attire, the 135i sports large shoes and an aggressive front spoiler which spikes its demeanor with a sort of steroid-filled short temper. This car appears on the edge of striking, ready for takeoff like a pissed-off pit-bull on a leash. You’ll be itching to drive every time you look at it.
